Design & Build

After the house burned down, the goal was to design from a place of communal dreams, bringing the house out of the ashes. The act of drawing becomes a tool for memory. This project allowed us to practice lessons of community, resilience, identity and refuge in our work. While the build process may be on slow, the heart of the home is continuous.

Casa Amor has become a container for architecture as a small, but intimate, act of resilience. Destruction and ruin give rise to questions of home, identity, and refuge. We explored these themes and designed around them with the family. The goal is to re-store the memory of place under a new roof. The space transcends time and evokes a nostalgia that is palpable, where the boundary between old and new become blurred.
